HIKE A THON FOR SEBHEL SCHOOL

Joe Taweel & John Tartak 2014

SEBHEL BUSH WALKING CLUB

The Friends of Sebhel held its inaugural hike to raise funds for the new school in Sebhel, Lebanon

After a week’s rain delay, The Hike-A-Thon finally got under way on a glorious Queens birthday long weekend, when many hikers walked the spectacular cliff tops  & beaches along the coastal walk from Bundeena to Wattamolla in the Royal National Park (The second oldest National Park in the world). We were then joined by family & friends at Wattamolla for a BBQ. Much fun & enjoyment was had by all who participated in this great cause to raise funds for the yet to be completed new school in Sebhel Lebanon.

The Royal National Park didn’t know what hit it when 50 Sebhelis walked the track. Even the birds stopped flying as they know what happens to birds in Sebhel! No whales were sighted from the many vantage points as there were Japanese walkers heading in the opposite direction to us! In all seriousness, a lot of fun was had with many photos taken, both of the fantastic scenery & of course the walkers, & nothing left behind but footprints.

The Hike-A-Thon was organised by The Friends of Sebhel (A group of Sebhelis & their friends who are dedicated to supporting projects in Sebhel) & strongly supported by The Charity Association of Sebhel.

$7,000 was raised by the walkers & sponsors & topped up to 10,000 USD by the association.

Special thanks go out to all supporters & sponsors:

The Charity Association of Sebhel
Teachers Mutual Bank
Roar Energy
Georges Building Supplies
Austar Couriers

Many requests have been made by those that walked & many that missed out to organise another walk. So by popular demand it has been decided to make the Hike-A-Thon for Sebhel an annual event.

As we now have some dedicated bush walkers within the Sebhel community we are planning more bush walks that are not fundraisers. (More info soon)
